We love to discuss safety rankings here on the Barber Honda blog. Last month, we shared with you information about the 2013 Honda Civic doing exceptionally well in testing, and today, we'd like to fill you in on the latest safety technology projects to come from the automaker.
The Japanese automaker recently released a press release that shared information about two experimental safety systems that it has been researching and developing. They are both based on the idea that more than half of Americans carry a smartphone every day.
The idea is that a car equipped with Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) can detect a smartphone that is also equipped with DSRC. So if a pedestrian or a motorcyclist has such a phone on him, then the systems will communicate to determine if the person is in danger of being hit by the car. Appropriately, the first technology is called Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) and the second, Vehicle-to-Motorcycle (V2M).
This technology has the most potential in situations where the pedestrian or motorcyclist is difficult or impossible to see, such as in a busy urban environment or if they are about to step beyond a parked car into traffic.
If you want to learn more about these and other safety systems that are already installed on the new Honda models in our Bakersfield, CA showroom, contact our team either by phone or online contact form. We'll be happy to answer any questions that you have and to schedule a test drive for you in the model of your choice.
