Think we're talking about cars? Think again. What we're referring to is Honda's dedication to developing and testing devices aimed at helping people who suffer from a lack of mobility walk easier and for longer distances.

The first walking assist device developed by Honda is designed to aid people with severely weakened leg muscles, who are still able walk. Officially coined, Stride Management Assist, it's fitted with a motor that helps lift each leg at the thigh as it moves forward and backward. Honda's goal is to help users lengthen their stride and make it easier for them to conquer longer distances at a greater speed.

The second walking assist device created by Honda is Bodyweight Support Assist. As you can guess from the name, it's designed to support body weight, thereby helping reduce the load users carry in their legs while walking, going up and down stairs, and in semi-crouch positions. The goal: To encourage faster rehabilitation or by reducing fatigue and physical exertion.

Are these walking assist devices currently available on the market? Unfortunately, no...at least, not yet. There have, however, been over 130 patents applied for related to the devices. And, they're currently being tested in real-world conditions to determine their overall effectiveness and benefit.
