Honda Tests Fit EV in China

Currently, you can purchase a hybrid variant of the all new 2012 Honda Fit at Barber Honda in Bakersfield, California. But, sometime in the near future you might be able to purchase a completely electric version from the Japanese auto maker.

The Japanese automaker has begun testing their Honda Fit EV fleet in China. These tests will be carried out with the governments of Guangzhou and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd.

For the testing, Fit EVs are taken through real-world metropolitan settings to observe their practicality, as well as to discover technological issues. In addition, the assessments will help the Japanese automaker decide where to install recharge stations.

Here's a brief look into the testing:

1. EVs will be driven on local streets to reproduce a real-world usage environment to identify the vehicle's potential technological issues.1

2. Through the monitoring of daily driving by general users, range per charge and charging patterns (frequency and location) will be confirmed.2
